Herb began working for Carolina Securities, a regional brokerage firm in Raleigh, NC, as a market maker in stocks that are traded on NASDAQ.He moved to Greensboro in 1989 to work for McDaniel Lewis & Co. in the same capacity.In February, 1993, he began working as a broker for Scott & Stringfellow before moving to Quick & Reilly in the summer of 1994.He joined Roberts & Dennis Insurance Group at the beginning of 1997.Herb works in the Life/Health Division of Dennis Insurance Group focusing on corporate group health, life, dental and disability.

Herb is a member of the National and the Triad Association of Health Underwriters. He served as President of the Triad Association of Health Underwriters during 2003-2004.He is also a member of the Greensboro Kiwanis Club, having served as Vice-President.
He was born in Greenville, NC.He attended NC State University before transferring to East Carolina University.An avid backpacker, he is a life-time member of the Appalachian Trail Conference.He also enjoys boating, water skiing and snow skiing.He and his wife Traci, and their children, Britt, Ellis and Evan, reside in Greensboro.They are active members of Irving Park United Methodist Church.
